Class,
I have graded and posted grades for the first service learning papers. I see quite a bit of passion and interest in each of your organizations that you have selected. Well done.I would like to connect students with other students who have similar interests in service learning and if you can think of a way that students could collaborate and support one another, let me know. I am always open to suggestions and know you are a creative and energetic group of students.
Some common writing errors I see when I grade are subject verb agreement, misuse of their and there, to and too, misplaced commas or apostrophes, and using plural pronouns with singular subjects. Remember that you have three hours of free tutoring in philosophy/ethics and you can use it to have someone help you edit a paper or run an idea about a presentation. I know the student services are on-site at MCTC, but I imagine they can work with distance education students via email or chat. I am also available via phone and skype if you want to talk about the course or any concerns you have.
I have added grades for Week Three (Abortion) discussion and saw some great posting interaction and appreciate how many of the presenters did their job facilitating and replying back to at least five students per the syllabus instructions. Great job extending the conversation and giving students feedback.
Presenter for Week Three should be receiving an email from me this week with their evaluation results and a score for presentation one on D2L.
The evaluation links are up for week five and our presenters should have posted their presentations by now. If a presenter fails to post after the deadline to have presentations up (typically the Monday that starts the week by noon), then you may post two observations in lieu of answering the questions and I will give credit. If there is no presenter, no evaluation is necessary. Presenters, remember you do not evaluate yourself (I will manually give the points), but do evaluate others.
Many are doing well on the quizzes and I can tell that those who are reading carefully are benefiting the most in the conversations and the quizzes.
A reminder that your second paper on power is due by the end of this week. If you have any concerns or questions send me an email or a phone call during my office hours. I am going to try and use the audio feature to grade in the next section and you may have an audio record instead of written comments next time.
Great work class!
